This is a group for people who have a long term health condition, who are finding it difficult to adjust or cope with their condition or manage the range of emotions that can arise as a result.
This group is based uses the principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). This is a way of learning to live a full and meaningful life whilst managing the emotional difficulties of having a long term health condition, such as worry, frustration, fear and low mood. Examples of long term health conditions include diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), HIV, heart failure, arthritis, chronic pain and epilepsy.
The group s runs in the afternoon from 13.30-15.30pm – please check the Latest News section for the next start date. The group will run for eight consecutive weeks with a follow up session on month after the group finishes. To fully benefit everyone in the group, we ask for commitment to all sessions.
What will the group involve?
The group will involve exercises to explore difficult emotions and learn skills to manage them. It will be a safe space with plenty of time to practice what is learnt and to increase confidence in applying the exercises to everyday life.
